Fiber Identifier
DESCRIPTION
An important tool for all fiber technicians, the FI100 Fiber Identifier detects the presence of signals on optical fibers. With the FI-100, technicians are able to trace fibers from end to end, verifying that live fibers are not disconnected. This also allows the technician to quickly determine the approximate core power and signal direction in a fiber optic cable without disconnecting the fiber.
The fiber identifier creates a non-intrusive macro bend so that only a small insertion loss is created, thus the technician can probe fibers without causing an alarm condition. The FI-100 uses tone detect technology so that the technician can trace signals without disconnecting fibers with potentially critical services.

Common Questions About the FI-100-KIT Fiber Identifier
What does the FI-100 Fiber Identifier do?
The FI-100 detects the presence of live optical signals on a fiber, allowing technicians to identify fibers, determine signal direction, and estimate core power without disconnecting the fiber.
Can the FI-100 be used on live fibers without causing outages?
Yes. It creates a non intrusive macro bend with very low insertion loss, allowing safe testing and tracing without triggering alarms or interrupting service.
What fiber types does the FI-100 support?
The FI-100 supports 250 micron, 900 micron, 2mm, 3mm fibers, as well as ribbon cables, including bend insensitive fiber.
Does the FI-100 detect tones and signal direction?
Yes. It uses tone detect technology at 270Hz, 330Hz, 1kHz, and 2kHz and provides left and right LED indicators to clearly show signal direction.
