GMP | Steel Breakaway Swivel 5/8 inch: White | #GMP71402
GMP | PART #GMP71402
DESCRIPTION
Break-away Swivels give you invaluable protection when pulling either fiber optic or coaxial cable
-
These simple tools provide an inexpensive fracture point between the pulling line and cable avoiding costly cable damage if the cable’s rated pulling capacity is exceeded
-
The breakaway swivels are available in two diameters; 7/8 in. (22.23mm) made from high-quality aluminum and 5/8 in. (15.88mm) made from steel
-
The 5/8 in. size is extremely convenient when working with innerduct sizes below 1 5/8 in. in diameter
-
The design of the breakaway swivels incorporates a replaceable tension bolt that joins the barrel eye and swivel body. The bolt separates when pulling loads on the cable reach +/-5%. The damaged bolt can then be replaced in seconds using an Allen Wrench (included) and screwdriver.
-
The swivel and bolt head are color-coded for fast load identification GMP uses a steel thrust washer and bushing in the larger break-away swivel and four (4) ball bearings in the smaller version. Both designs provide smooth rotation under load and help to keep twisting forces from reaching the cable. The larger breakaway swivel, 7/8 in. x 4-5/8 in. (22.2mm x 114.3mm) is machined from aluminum alloy with a black anodized finish for wear resistance. We offer six (6) standard bolt strengths ranging from 340 lbs. (154kgs) to 1200 lbs. (544kgs).
The smaller break-away swivel, 5/8 in. x 3 1/4 in. (15.9mm x 95.2mm) is made of steel with a zinc plating finish for wear resistance. We offer eleven (11) standard bolt strengths ranging from 200 lbs. (91kgs) to 700 lbs. (317kgs).
When placing fiber optic cable, 600 lbs. (272kgs) has been the industry standard for maximum load tension on the cable.
With the inclusion of Fiber Optic cable in new OSP designs for broadband construction such as FTTx, you can choose from our list of appropriate breakpoints matching the cable manufacturer’s specification. When ordering a swivel(s) please keep in mind the need to also order a few replacement bolts. This will avoid delays in work if the bolt supplied with the swivel(s) breaks. Delays can then occur while waiting for replacement bolt(s) to be ordered from the factory.
Note: The bolt design of the 5/8 in. swivel is slightly different from the bolt of the 7/8 in. swivel. Therefore, the bolts are not interchangeable between the two (2) sizes of swivels. Please consult the factory for a breaking strength not listed among our standard sizes.
